Perforator (Impact) damage imparts knockback as well as damage, and is great against the squishy types. Energy Drill (Energy) damage wreaks havoc on robotic foes and electronic equipment, and energy weapons often have special capabilities, such as the Stitcher Energy Drill mode which can pierce through walls.
